Challenge Brief

Challenge Brief

Create an identity.

Create an identity.

In 2025, for its annual Creative Arts & Design Degree Show, Loughborough University launched its first-ever competitive brand identity brief, asking competitors for a single, cohesive design system/identity for the Degree Show 2025.

  • Design:

A system capable of modularity and versatility, with the potential for sub-branding across three other high-profile industry events: New Designers, and D&ad New Blood.

  • Unify & Attract:

You must visually unify our seven distinct creative disciplines, reaching new audiences and stakeholders from relevant external industries.

With the anticipated annual Degree Show approaching, Loughborough University put out a brief to challenge designers to create an identity that challenges and provokes. Something innovative, new, and exciting for prospects and visitors.

The Brief:

  • A new identity: Something that will attract new visitors.

  • Unite: Create a unifying design language.

Concept

Exploration of abstract representational form, motion, shape, and colour.

Adhering to the university's established brand colour palette, and aiming to utilise the breadth of it, our event design strategy was built around high-impact 3D form, evolving our concept with variable appearance, motion and colour.

  • Tooling: Blender was used exclusively for rendering and animating the 3D shapes.

Introduction

After winning a competition brief, we created an identity system to explore how seven diverse creative disciplines might be represented through one cohesive design language, for the annual Degree show taking place on Loughborough University's campus.

Poster Series

The identity relies on seven distinct forms to represent the diverse disciplines within the school, with each one rendered in 3d and animated for spatial design.

Extended Events

The versatile design system was then extended for application to various high-profile industry events, led by authorities known for nurturing young talent in the UK.

  • New Designers 40: Textiles

  • New Designers 40: Industrial and Product Design

  • D&ad New Blood Festival 2025
